How long should a parcel take to deliver when its by recorded delivery?

Longer than you would think.

A recorded delivery letter does not travel quicker than a normal first class letter. It is very likely to move less quickly, because its movement has to be recorded at each stage.

The Royal Mail only undertakes to deliver a first class letter within 5 (FIVE) days. Please note. People may have become accustomed to getting their first class mail the following day, but that is not an obligation for the Post Office. They only undertake to do that for a letter sent by special delivery, which is much more expensive than first class / recorded.

With parcels you can wait longer still, because they are not going to go through the automated systems that the letters go through.

At times of high post volume, sorting offices put entire areas off limits for normal deliveries, and do different post code groups on different days. How long should a parcel take to deliver when its by recorded delivery?

Probably one day; two at the most. You should be able to track it on www.postoffice.co.uk
